Be it a long vacation or a long break from work, getting back to your fitness schedule once you are back in town can get quite difficult. There are some things to think about when you’re easing back into a workout routine whether you’ve been taking a break for the past couple of weeks, months, or even years. Here are some ways to get you back on track.
Pick your comfort zone to start.
Start within your comfort zone so that you will still be comfortable exercising after that long break. Mix your routine with some fun activities which you love and you will automatically get a head start.
Remember! Exercising is not only about the gym, its anything that keeps you fit and if anything within your comfort zone can keep you fit, then that’s where you need to start from. Picking up social activities, taking your dog for a long walk or jogging through your neighborhood will also help you get back to your routine workout.
Take it slow! Don’t overdo it right away.
Our body takes time to get used to a routine and after a long break, your body needs some time before you hit your previous fitness schedule. So, give your body some time and don’t rush into it. Be deliberate and conscious of your movements. Take the time to focus on your form, on your breathing, on your control and after a week or two when your body adapts to the habit, you can stick to your previous routine.
Unless and until you are preparing for some competition, you do not need to rush into it. Take a week, a month or
two to get used to the routine and then pace it up. Fitness is a lifestyle and you should take it the right way.
Remember the post-workout high
Apart from some sore muscles, you will never regret a workout. The workout can be tough at the moment, but you always feel good and motivated after the workout. Sometimes we need to forget the efforts and focus it takes to hit the exercise and look at the outcomes of doing it anyway.
However hard it becomes to work out again, remember how happy you were in achieving your body goal and that is what will give you the motivation to hit back into the routine.
Involve in group activities
Finding a gym buddy or a participating in a group training activity can be quite a motivation for you and it is always fun to workout with someone than working out alone. You could also join some group activities like Zumba which will give you a head start. Involving in such group activities will also increase your social circle.
If not a group, you can even find a gym buddy, a person who is very consistently on a workout regime. Having such person with you keeps you motivated to be consistent with your routine.
When you have a goal to achieve, you have a reason for doing it. Take a short one-month fitness challenge to kick start your routine. You will feel great after completing the challenge and be back into your exercising habits.
Habits take time to dwell and once you develop a habit, exercising becomes a part of your daily life and when you feel like giving up, remember why you started in the first place! All the best on hitting back to the gym.
